PRO services

Definition

What it means.

Public Relations Officer services — handling government transactions on a company's behalf: document clearing, attestation, visa processing, labour and immigration filings. A PRO is the person who queues at the counter so that you do not.

Where it comes up

PRO stands for Public Relations Officer, which describes the role badly. In practice a PRO handles government transactions — document clearing, attestation, visa processing, labour and immigration filings — with access to the portals under your company's file.

What it costs

Either an employed salary plus visa, or an outsourced monthly or per-transaction fee. Outsourcing is usually cheaper below a certain volume of transactions.

Who it applies to

Every company with staff or ongoing government transactions, whether the function is in-house or outsourced.

How it actually goes

  1. Authorise themA PRO acts under a signed authorisation or a notarised power of attorney. Nothing moves without it.
  2. Agree the scopePer transaction or on a retainer. Visa processing, licence renewal, notary attendance, attestation and typing-centre work are the usual list.
  3. Keep the originalsPassports and original documents leave your hands during processing. Track what is out and with whom.
  4. Check the disbursementsGovernment fees are fixed and published. The service fee is the negotiable part, and the two should appear separately on the invoice.

A PRO is not a substitute for knowing your own deadlines. They execute; the obligation to renew on time remains the company's, and authorities pursue the company rather than its agent.

The mistake people make. Leaving portal access with a departing employee. The PRO's access is tied to your company's file and losing control of it is an administrative emergency.

In short

  • Covers immigration, labour and municipality transactions
  • Can be in-house or outsourced
  • Requires access to government portals under the company's file
