How the business actually makes money
A salon sells chair-hours. Utilisation and average ticket are the only two levers, and both are driven by location and by the specific stylists you employ. Staff are the business: a senior stylist takes their clients when they leave, which makes retention a commercial issue rather than an HR one. Retail product sales are where the margin actually is for many operators, and it is routinely under-exploited.
