Golden Visa for doctors and healthcare professionals
Physicians, specialists and — since the 2025 expansion — nurses with long service can hold a ten-year residence that survives changing hospital, which is what makes it worth having in a sector where people move often.
What it is
Who this is actually for.
Healthcare has its own well-established path into the exceptional talent category. Physicians and specialists in fields the health authorities are recruiting for — and the list is specific rather than general — qualify on the basis of their professional licence, accredited qualifications and, usually, a recommendation from the health authority in their emirate: DHA in Dubai, the Department of Health in Abu Dhabi, or MOHAP federally. The 2025 expansion of the scheme brought in nurses with fifteen or more years of service in the UAE, which recognised a workforce that had been carrying employer-sponsored residence for entire careers.
The reason this matters more in healthcare than in most sectors is mobility. Clinical staff move between hospitals, and every move on an employer-sponsored visa is a cancellation, a new work permit, a new medical and a gap in which you are not licensed to practise. A ten-year self-sponsored residence removes that entirely: you change employer as an employment matter, and your right to be in the country is unaffected. For anyone considering private practice it is close to a precondition, because setting up a clinic while your residence is sponsored by the hospital you are leaving is a difficult sequence to run.

How it runs, in order.

Questions
Nurses with fifteen or more years of service in the UAE were brought into the scheme in the 2025 expansion. The service requirement is the operative test.
It removes the immigration obstacle. You still need a healthcare facility licence from the relevant health authority and a trade licence, which are separate and considerably more involved.
That is an argument for applying, not against. The application rests on your professional licence and qualifications, not on a current contract.
Yes, spouse and children under the same file, and the ten-year term means the family's residence is no longer tied to your employment.
One question
Who is going to sponsor this residence?
Then most of this is out of your hands and that is usually fine — the employer holds the quota, files the permit and carries the cost. What is worth checking before you sign is the job title going on the permit, because it decides your skill classification, and that in turn decides whether you can sponsor a family later.
How the employment route runsOr just ask usThen the visa and the company are one decision. Quota comes from the licence and the premises, so a package chosen on price can quietly cap you at one or two visas — which is discovered at the point you want to bring your spouse or your first hire.
Compare the 40 authoritiesOr just ask usThen you are looking at the Golden Visa, the Green Visa, or the remote work permit, and they are not interchangeable. The Green Visa needs a freelance permit and an income history; the Golden Visa needs an asset, an endorsement or a nomination; the remote work permit needs a foreign employer and lasts a year.
