Golden Visa for teachers and educators

The 2025 expansion brought school leaders and long-serving teachers into the Golden Visa. It is the least publicised category and one of the easiest to evidence, because schools keep the records for you.

What it is

Who this is actually for.

Educators were added to the scheme as part of the 2025 and 2026 expansions, alongside content creators, e-sports professionals and Waqf donors. The category covers school principals and senior leaders, and teachers with a substantial record of service and demonstrable contribution, assessed with a recommendation from the education regulator in the emirate — KHDA in Dubai, ADEK in Abu Dhabi, or the Ministry of Education. Evidence is service length, inspection outcomes, leadership roles, curriculum development and, where relevant, published work or recognised awards.

What makes this category unusually tractable is that the evidence already exists and somebody else is holding it. Schools maintain service records, appraisal histories and inspection reports as a matter of regulatory course, and a recommendation from the regulator draws on material it already sees. Compared with the entrepreneur route, where an applicant has to construct a valuation from nothing, an educator's case is largely an exercise in requesting documents. The obstacle is almost never the evidence. It is that teachers do not know the category exists, and school HR departments process employment visas because that is the system they run.

Unusually tractable, because the school is already holding most of the evidence.

The sequence

How it runs, in order.

  1. Request your service record from the schoolDates, roles, appraisal outcomes and any leadership responsibilities. Schools are obliged to hold this and generally provide it on request.
  2. Attest your teaching qualificationsDegree and teaching certification, attested in the issuing country. For long-serving teachers this is often the only slow step.
  3. Assemble evidence of contributionCurriculum development, mentoring, inspection commendations, published material, competition results.
  4. Approach the regulator for a recommendationKHDA, ADEK or the ministry, depending on the emirate and the school.
  5. Apply, then medical and Emirates IDAfter which moving school is an employment decision rather than an immigration one.
The mistake people make. Assuming it is for principals only. The category reads as though it targets senior leadership, and leaders certainly qualify — but long service with a documented record of contribution is the substance of it. Classroom teachers with fifteen years in the same school regularly qualify and never apply.

Questions

Yes — the private sector is the bulk of UAE schooling and the regulators that recommend, KHDA and ADEK, oversee exactly those schools.

There is no single published number for teachers as there is for nurses. Service length is weighed alongside role and contribution, and a recommendation from the regulator is what settles it.

Academics with doctorates are usually stronger under the scientists and researchers limb. Schoolteachers and school leaders fall here.

It has no standing to. The residence is self-sponsored and separate from your employment contract, though most schools are supportive since it removes their own visa administration.
